Music and Worship

Worship is a repsonse--to who God is and what He's done. It's an act of reverence in which we lower ourselves so God is lifted up. It's a gesture of total submisison, in which we say: "Lord, You are worthy of our praise, You are the King of kings, and we are here to serve You." We give our hearts to Him in acts of submission and surrender.
The worship ministry at Westmark exists to honor God through active expressions of worship, and to draw people closer to Him. We believe that worship is not just what takes place during a Sunday morning church service, but that worship can happen every day in the small and big things we do. As we give Him the everyday moments of our lives, we make our very lives an offering of worship.
In authentic worship, we recognize we must worship as God commands. John 4:23-24 says, "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." No one particular style of worship is biblical, and worship is not just about music. Through prayer, praise, thanking, singing--anything that is an active expression in response to who God is, in spirit and truth--is an expression that blesses God.
Here are three questions we ask ourselves in preparation for worship:
*Does it glorify God?
*Does it build up the body of Christ?
*Does it help us be what God wants us to be in the world?
Considering these questions allows our team to lead others in authentic worship of God.
